In a strange case, a man accidentally fired an air rifle and it bounced and hit his pregnant wife in the stomach. When the wife was taken to the hospital, the doctors decided after examination that it would not be right to remove the pellet right now and it would be better to wait for the baby to be born. A month later, when the baby girl was born, the doctors removed the pellet from the baby’s stomach and miraculously it did not cause much harm to her.
This bizarre incident took place in Moscow, Russia, where local media reported that the father was shooting from an air rifle when the pellet bounced off and entered his pregnant wife’s stomach. An ultrasound was performed which showed that there was no threat to the life and health of the mother and the baby and emergency surgical intervention was not found to be necessary, therefore, it was decided to have a planned delivery at the standard period.
Surgeons performed an extensive examination, ultrasound of the abdominal soft tissue, and X-rays, and determined that the bullet was present beneath the skin. The scans revealed that the pellet was about a centimeter in length and half a centimeter in width. And yet the pellet had not caused any damage to the baby’s vital organs. In such a situation, the doctors who saw him decided that the safest course of action was to wait until the baby was born before attempting to remove the pellet.

Dr Mikhail Georgievich Rekhviashvili, head of the neonatal surgery department, said: “During the examination, my colleagues and I found that the bullet was superficial and did not damage the baby’s internal organs, so there was no threat to the baby’s life.”
Surprisingly, all the doctors’ guesses turned out to be correct and soon after the baby’s birth, the pellet was removed from just beneath her skin in her stomach area. The surgeons then stitched the baby and issued a statement saying that both the mother and her baby are healthy. This is the only case of its kind in the world, where the bullet remained in the stomach of the pregnant mother’s baby for a month.
